Community Spotlight: Romance, Sport & Warfare!
July 16, 2025 by avernos
Come and join us for another delve into the Projects to find the best of the best from the last week or so. We'll be getting stuck into lots of great-looking miniature wargaming painting and hobbying this week...
...always let us know what YOU have been working on and share it across the site.
I Would Rather Share One Lifetime With You Than Face All The Ages Of This World Alone by OnlyOnePinMan
Kicking things off this week is a fantastic diorama project from onlyonepinman who follows on from his lengthy username with what is probably the longest project title in the whole project system. A stunning tribute to an elf cougar jumping a man in his ninties!
These tutorial style projects are probably my favourite outside of the pinnacle that is a battle report, and Onlyonepinman makes life as easy as possible for anyone who fancies recreating these stunning little dioramas from listing all the components and materials to even linking where they came from. Touch of class right there that man.
Watching the layers of textures build up is a fantastic demonstration of how to achieve a releastic and natural bit of terrain and this can of course be carried across into miniature basing and doing your own terrain far beyond the diorama we see coming together here.
The final configuration is fantastic and one I'm sure will disappoint @brennon that he isn't here to see. The use of water effects and a myriad of foilage types makes it really vibrant and his miniature work is exceptional as well, if I had a complaint it would be that the minis didn't get a tutorial alongside the terrain itself.
Bloodbowl by PaulgBarnes
Next up is a project that Paul has been tinkering away on since November last year. After a stockcheck and bit of reboxing he has realised that his collection isn't quite as complete as he thought it may be.
The teams are a great example of steady work repeated across a team, even though it doesn't have as many figures as a warband or army I think often with teams it can be harder to maintain the uniform look and Paul has managed that here in spades.
Along with the teams themselves, there is a host of Big Guys like the Rat Ogre and Troll which are real centre pieces for the teams in question and add to this a host of star players Paul has done some amazing work across the board in getting them all together.
I love the gnome Treemen, especially that they have different leaf colours on them, making it incredibly easy to pick out which is which when the scrums get set up and the kick off comes. It shows what a neat, solid paint job can do, and across all of the teams in the project, it shows a real dedication to keep that level up throughout.
Speedpainting, Champions Style by HazyBoy75
Our final butt butt ding this week goes to Hazyboy75 who is not only putting the foot down on speed painting, but doing it on a brand new game in one of my favourite universes to play in. Kings of War: Champions gives the ideal avenue to paint full armies in a very short amount of time so Hazy has done just this.
The Master-Crafted Resin is a beautiful material to work with and the work here on Jorden Talesen really shows off the crisp sculpt to its best. Despite mostly being speedpaints and a touch of the old BMB, Hazy has taking the Champion to the next level with the foliage and snow on the basing, not a huge amount but enough to add a splash of colour and some visual interest.
The big model for Jorden's retinue is Brock Brockersen, the grenade throwing, crow riding berserker that you don't want to get in the way of. Again the larger model has come together in double-quick fashion and is a striking centrepiece for the Northern Alliance on the tabletop.
La'thael Voidheart shows how versatile the painting technique that Hazy uses is. After the muted browns and greys of the Northern Alliance the dark black and shocking pinks of the Twiglet Kin makes a stark contrast on the table and with the forces now ready to play Hazy is already pushing into a third Champion's force for the table. Cracking looking warbands done and dusted with the minimum of fuss, I don't really have an excuse for not having mine painted do I?
