Naval Wargaming by jamescutts

We dive in with some Historical wargaming and jamescutt, who has been working away on some tiny ships for use in some World War I wargaming. These miniatures come in at the very small 1/2400 scale and there is a wonderful mix amongst this collection of Dreadnoughts, Battleships and Cruisers.

Naval Wargaming #1 by jamescutts

jamescutts has put together a great series of posts already in the project that look into the painting of the ships, working on those lovely ocean bases and also the creation of the bases. The basis for the collection and the game comes via Yarkshire Gamer and the Leeds Wargames Club and their own World War I naval wargame, all of which you can find out about in the project.

As well as the painting of the miniatures, jamescutts has also talked about the inspiration behind the project and what ships have been the focus. jamescutts has always been a fan of naval wargaming and so to be able to dive back into it is great.

I like that, as well as being nice for your wargaming, painting up naval miniatures like this is really neat for display purposes. You could have these up on your shelf and get to appreciate the big fleets that you're building!

Night Goblins by gorram

As well as the naval wargaming awesomeness, we have a big grand army that has been building thanks to gorram. Night Goblins are the name of the game and even though this Night Goblin force has been more or less finished, a whole bunch of extra characters and units have been added to it recently, despite there being other armies waiting in the wings.

I have a friend who collected Orcs & Goblins back in the day and so this was a glorious little slice of nostalgia to dive back into as part of this project. These characters look fantastic, especially the fellow in the middle with his purple robe and that leering face.

Night Goblins #2 by gorram

As well as the characters, thare some wonderful units that have been painted up for use in this army. I really like the idea of the purple cloaks rather than going for black cloaks. Also, this army has been based so that it can be used for both Warhammer: The Old World and Kings of War. A good dual use of the miniatures to get the most out of them.

Night Goblins #3 by gorram

I absolutely love seeing classic Warhammer armies all ranked up and ready for battle. There's something about the pageantry of armies like this which just feels impressive. This army has mostly been done and dusted but there are always more units and miniatures being added over time. This is brilliant and it has made me start to rethink my own Warhammer army, currently languishing in a bag.

Pirates by denzien

Last but not least, we're diving back into some Historical wargaming from denzien. They thought about revisiting the likes of Legends of the Old West and more and the most recent adventure was in the realm of the piratical.

Pirates #1 by denzien

Miniatures this time around came from the likes of Black Scorpion (who do some amazing miniatures for Cutlass!) and as you can see, the scene was set for a great battle on a seafront town somewhere where there was a pirate ship in need of capturing!

Pirates #2 by denzien

I love the look of the terrain used in the game and I think the setting looks brilliant. I really enjoy that the tabletop isn't just the tow, either and there is a small dock nearby where that ship has been set up. One of the things I really like about the project from denzien is that it contains a lot of really awesome terrain. A game with lovely miniatures is neat but it's made all the better when played on good terrain.

Pirates #3 by denzien

One of these days, I'll actually be able to play some games in these settings that I love but have never taken the plunge on. I will be keeping an eye on denzien's efforts and dreaming of my own tabletops in years to come. My retirement is going to be one of gaming sheds, big tables and lots of time spent actually enjoying my hobby more. Oh, and check out that floating survivor in the waves in that picture above!
