Mantic Games are closing in on the launch of their new Kickstarter for Assassin's Creed: Animus, their new board game based on the hit video game series. Jump into the boots of famous assassins from across the video game saga and seek the end of the Templars!

Assassin's Creed: Animus will give you the chance to play as your favourite Assassin's Creed characters like Edward Kenway, Ezio, Eivor and more in a two-to-four player game of stealth, combat and adventures.

Players will play as their characters, taking on their adventures in their own timelines. Each assassin comes with their own set of bespoke mechanics, targets and more that you'll have to master if you want to come out on top and stop the Templars.

We were lucky enough to be able to play the game earlier this year and you should be seeing a Let's Play coming out very soon! We'll be able to give you a breakdown of gameplay and how all of the mechanics work, plus how the different assassins from their various time periods all work together in this experience.
As a fan of the Assassin's Creed franchise, I am intrigued to see how the game works and if they've managed to get across the feel of the world. Mantic has done some sterling work in the past on intellectual properties like Hellboy, The Walking Dead, Worms and Halo, so I can see them doing something nifty here too.

Kinda wish it was a full miniatures game TBH
The busts are neat and you can get real good detail with painting but I was hoping for something similar to Kings & Assassins where you hide through the crowd and try to eliminate your target (akin to the old multiplayer mode they had).
With the way modern IP licensing works, the licensee (Ubisoft) can license a minis game separately from a board game, which is likely what happened here. Triton Noir (Canada) continues to hold the minis game license, so Mantic was able to get the board game license (thus the busts, so as not to interfere with TN’s minis game licensing rights.)
I kind of like that they’ve turned this into a boardgame and not yet another miniature heavy wannabe skirmish game thing.
Those things are ridiculously expensive for what they offer.
And it’s unlikely they could have done all of the settings AC has had so far.
Most of the settings aren’t worth doing, to be honest and the last 5 have been all over the place. Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla just didn’t feel like assassin’s creed games – none of them actually featuring the Assassin order. They just felt like fantasy adventure games. Mirage might get a pass but was a complete rip off given then brevity of the game itself and the less said about Shadows the better. I wasn’t personally a fan of syndicate, too close to steam punk for my tastes, but everything prior to that was pretty good. Obviously the series peaked with the Ezio trilogy and if anyone was going to make a miniatures game, this is where they should focus their efforts. Which is exactly what Triton Noir did with Brotherhood of Venice.
