Nighthaunt & Flesh-eaters; New Age Of Sigmar Releases
August 11, 2025 by brennon
Games Workshop will be taking pre-orders this weekend for two updated armies for their Fantasy wargame, Warhammer Age of Sigmar. The Grand Alliance of Death welcomes updated rules, new miniatures and more for the Nighthaunt and the Flesh-eater Courts.
Battletome: Flesh-eater Courts // Warhammer Age of Sigmar
We start with the Flesh-eater Courts. This twisted horde of snarling fiends shambles forward under the delusion that they are, infact, noble and valiant lords, ladies, knights and men-at-arms riding to battle to rid their lands of the foes.
Ruled by the mad king, Ushoran, the Flesh-eater Courts are a mockery of humanity. Whilst they gibber and bound towards you, claws and fangs bared, in their minds, they are charging forward under fluttering banners with battlecries ringing out all around them.

Think of Bretonnians of Warhammer Fantasy Battles/The Old World and then turn that up to eleven and cover it in blood, guts and rotted flesh. The new Battletome delves into all of that with new lore, rules and more for you to get started with the Flesh-eater Courts. You'll also find new rules for an up-to-date Spearhead and Path to Glory armies inside its pages.
New Spearhead & More
Talking of a new Spearhead, this is the newest one for the Flesh-eater Courts, the Charnel Watch.
Spearhead: Charnel Watch // Warhammer Age of Sigmar
This set is led by the Abhorrant Gorewarden, who leads three Crypt Horrors and three Crypt Flayers. They are then supported by an old Warcry warband with the Flaymaster commanding a pack of Ghouls and a pair of Offal Hounds.
Spearhead is a fully-fledged game in its own right from Games Workshop and a good introduction to Warhammer Age of Sigmar. Whilst this might be the new Spearhead, the previous one is not invalidated and rules for using your Spearhead can all be found online for free. You can find everything you need HERE.
Another set of miniatures will also be available during the pre-order period, the Scarlet Jury.

If you'd like to get some Flesh-eater Courts miniatures for your collection but don't want to go for a full army, this might be a good direction to go. This set of miniatures is led by Grand Justice Gormayne, who is backed up by ten Cryptguard and a Royal Decapitator. You can use this Regiment for Death and Destruction armies as well as the Cities of Sigmar, Kharadron Overlords and even the Slaves to Darkness.
Last but not least, there is also a new character for the Flesh-eater Courts with High Falconer Felgryn.
High Falconer Felgryn // Warhammer Age of Sigmar
This fellow believes himself the master of the noble beasts that roost in the castles of his lords. He is, infact, master of twisted bats and other foul beasts that have flocked to his gore-drenched form. Even his loyal pet, Grype, isn't a single beast but part of a swarm, as the original creature died long ago!
This should give you a pretty good idea of the delusion that the Flesh-eater Courts are under! This is one of the elements of Warhammer Age of Sigmar that I really love. The design team have plenty of space to create interesting miniatures, not bound by the rigid "lore" of the likes of Warhammer 40,000. It means that we get some whacky and unique armies!
New Nighthaunt for Warhammer Age of Sigmar
If you prefer your undead to be wispy and spooky rather than rabid and terrifying, then you might want to pick up the new rules and miniatures for the Nighthaunt.
Battletome: Nighthaunts // Warhammer Age of Sigmar
The Flesh-eater Courts are twisted and delusional but at least they're "happy". By comparison, the Nighthaunt are mournful and driven by grief. Nagash is a cruel master and the Nighthaunt are crafted from the spirits of those who have transgressed in life. All of them have a sorry story to tell, cursed and punished for their deeds in life or perhaps simply because Nagash finds it amusing.
Nighthaunt Warscroll Cards and Dice // Warhammer Age of Sigmar
The new Battletome contains all of the background you'll need to know for the Nighthaunt and more, including your army rules and additional content for games of Spearhead and Path to Glory. More than just ghosts, drifting across the battlefield, the Nighthaunt are a terrifying and intriguing army for those seeking to dive deep into the lore of The Mortal Realms.
The Spearhead for the Nighthaunt is the Cursed Shacklehorde.
Spearhead: Cursed Shacklehorde // Warhammer Age of Sigmar
Howling forth from the depths of Shyish, the Cursed Shacklehorde features three heroes backed up by ten Bladegheist Revenants, ten Dreadscythe Harridans and two Dreadblade Harrows. A swirling mass of spirits ready to scare the life out of you.
One of the nice things about the Nighthaunt is that they are probably the easiest army in Warhammer Age of Sigmar to paint. Break out the Contrast paints, some washes and a bit of weathering material and these could be done in an evening if you were quick about it!
A couple of characters are also going to be introduced into the mix for the Nighthaunt. We start with the new miniature, the Lord Vitriolic.
Lord Vitriolic // Warhammer Age of Sigmar
Once a snakeoil salesman peddling "miracle tonics" across The Mortal Realms, the Lord Vitriolic was twisted and turned into the character you see here once his soul was claimed by Nagash. His alchemism has been turned to the services of the Nighthaunt, choosing the precise elixir or potion that could cripple a foe or corrode their armour in an instant.
An older miniature from the era of the Soul Wars is also available once again. You will also be able to pick up the Knight of Shrouds.
Knight of Shrouds // Warhammer Age of Sigmar
These zealous commanders were generals who turned traitor on their people to save themselves. They now serve Nagash and know that to defy him would be the end of them. They carry the Sword of Stolen Hours, which can steal the very life force of those struck, giving the Knight of Shrouds more power to drive deeper into the ranks of the enemy.
All of these new miniatures, supplements and accessories will be available for you to pre-order this weekend. If you've not considered Warhammer Age of Sigmar, I would certainly recommend picking up a Spearhead and giving it a go alongside the free rules. It's a fun game and one that might tip you over into diving deeper into The Mortal Realms.
What do you think of the new pre-orders coming soon?
