Victrix Preview Their New Pillage Carolingian Cavalry & Infantry

Following on from the release of Pillage a few months ago, Victrix's Dark Age skirmish wargame, they have now previewed another range of 28mm plastic figures that will be coming out to support your warband building. See what you make of their Carolingians.

Carolingian Infantry & Cavalry // Victrix Miniatures

This upcoming set of options for the Carolingians will focus on the Unarmoured Infantry and Cavalry elements of your force. On the one side, you've got the Infantry who would have been mostly spearmen but you'll also find a lot of other secondary weapons within the set, including swords, axes and clubs for when your spear inevitably breaks!

All of the infantry can also be seen carrying the distinctive dished shield of the Carolingians into battle, which features studs and embossed designs. This should make it easy to spot your Carolingians on the field of battle!

The Unarmoured Infantry set has also been designed to represent those who were less well-off amongst the army. With that in mind, there are very few helmeted heads in the set but you will find a lot of bare heads and caps. If you've got a spear and a shield for a lot of warlords, that was probably enough!

A lot of the Carolingians also feature cloaks. This is because, after researching the period, a lot of their troops were portrayed as having them, so they have been folded into the overall design. You will also note the distinctive tall boots of the Carolingians, which feature the tulip-shaped tops. This is another little detail that sets them apart from other figures within the Pillage range.

In addition to the Carolingian Infantry that you can see here, built in all manner of different ways, you will also be able to get the Carolingian Cavalry soon to add another dimension to your Pillage warbands. Again, this is going to be a rather indepth kit packed with options for customising your force.

This set will come with lots of thundering cavalry charging into the heart of the fighting. A nice touch with this particular plastic set is the include of the crests which can be optionally added to some of the helmets. So, if you're someone who thinks that the crests are factual enough for your force then you can just pop them on. Or, leave them off if you think they might just be a little too fancy for your warriors.

As Victrix pointed out in their preview, the Carolingians haven't been particularly well catered for when it comes to miniatures, especially in plastic. This is going to be a great way for you to start or expand a force for not just Pillage but other 28mm Historical wargames too.
