TTCombat has previewed another impressive BIG miniature for their 32mm skirmish game, Carnevale. The Emissary of Mother Hydra is going to be thrashing its way out of the water and dragging unsuspecting troupes into the depths!

The Emissary of Mother Hydra // Carnevale

TTCombat routinely impress me with the miniatures they are adding to their Carnevale range and I don't think The Emissary of Mother Hydra is any different. I really like the incredibly toothy maw in particular, which is just begging to be covered in strands of saliva and blood. You also have those terrible, glassy eyes which are watching for prey.

As well as the monstrous head of the beast, the kit is also going to come with the writhing tentacles that are lashing out at everything nearby. They are covered in nasty barbs and suckers, each feeling like they have an intelligence of their own.

I appreciate the extra bit of sculpting work done around the base of the tentacles, which shows that they are bursting out of the water. They could easily have been sculpted to sit flat on the bases but this adds a bit more dynamism to the entire look of the set.

I think that this new monster for Carnevale would look impressive with a bit of Slapchop used as the basis for the paint scheme. You could make the ridges on the head look great and it would give an extra dimension to the tentacles very easily.

As you can see, it's a big kit that is going to dominate the streets, canals and harbours of Venice when you drop it into your games of Carnevale.

I can see some cool scenarios put together featuring The Emissary of Mother Hydra, especially with a harbour set-up like this. The game might feature this mechanic already but you could add something about boats sinking and flotsam drifting around on the water, making fighting that little bit harder. Watch out for the release of The Emissary of Mother Hydra at the end of September, which isn't too far away!
