Skirmish With Victrix Miniatures New Thureophoroi Set
September 24, 2025 by brennon
Victrix has released a brand new 28mm scale plastic set for use in your Historical wargames. The Thureophoroi will be joining Ancient armies to engage in skirmishing, harassing the enemy before the front lines clash.
Thureophoroi // Victrix Miniatures
This set comes with thirty-six miniatures representing the Thureophoroi, warriors that appeared during the 3rd Century BC when armies required fighters who could do more than just fight in formation. They were armed with the theuros shield, javelins, a long spear and a sword, which meant that they could be flexible and adapt to what the leaders needed them to do at a moment's notice.
They could fight from range with their javelins, form a shield wall to drive off cavalry or fill in the gaps between the massed phalanx that made up the core of these Ancient armies.
Thureophoroi // Victrix Miniatures
This made them invaluable to armies and this means they are going to be a solid link that will bind your army together when you're building it for the likes of Hail Caesar or Clash of Spears as examples. They were also used as border guards, garrison troops and even raiders who were sent to rob the enemy camp or disrupt their movements. They were seriously like special operatives from Ancient times!
Thureophoroi // Victrix Miniatures
These warriors formed a key part of Hellenistic armies all the way through to the 1st Century BC when the Romans swept in and put an end to the Greek Successor States. They remind me a lot of early versions of the Velites that you would then find as part of Roman armies, although they weren't quite as versatile as what the Greeks were doing here with the Thureophoroi.
Thureophoroi - Unit // Victrix Miniatures
This set comes with loads of different options for making your Thureophoroi, including lots of javelins but also a bunch of swords as well. You also get the thrusting spears and, of course, that iconic shield. There are also options for your command figures, which include a trumpet and a standard bearer.
You will also get eighty-four different heads featuring different helmet styles (plus interchangeable crests) and loads of cloaks, too. Using some of the references here, you could paint them up pretty quickly and then use those Little Big Men transfers to finish off the schemes.
Thureophoroi Sprue // Victrix Miniatures
You can pick up these miniatures right now from Victrix and use them to reinforce the armies of Philip V of Macedon or Antiochus of the Seleucid Empire right away. Another glorious set for those wanting to dive into Ancient army building.
Could you be tempted to pick up the Thureophoroi?

That dude on the right in the first two pictures looks a bit surprised XD
Yeah, he’s standing on an air vent and just got an icy blast up the unmentionables.
It’s all Greek to me.
