Vintage miniatures enthusiasts, Gary Westwell and Sculptor/Illustrator Aaron Howdle, have joined forces for a new project, Heavy Metal Hordes (cue the guitar riff). Dive in and get your hands on some seriously epic Oldhammer-themed Fantasy figures, starting with their Legendary Leaders Kickstarter.

The duo aims to populate battlefields with their version and vision of the major Fantasy classics that you'd expect, all themed around the style of sculpting that you will know from the 1980s and the 1990s. Legendary Leaders starts this off with a range of character figures as well as Command Groups that they can fight alongside.

Silla the Black // Heavy Metal Hordes

There are loads of familiar races in the mix right now, from the shambling undead through to Orcs, Demons, Elves and Dwarves. There are also original races from the pair that are being created to expand this range even more.

All of the miniatures from Heavy Metal Hordes will be, as you might have expected, cast in pewter (as proper miniatures should be, according to them!), and entirely hand sculpted. There's no digital design or STL files involved here.

Orrid, Goblin Chieftain // Heavy Metal Hordes

The starting point for this collection is the leaders who will be taking control of these mighty armies. They all come with their own names and a hefty backstory, which you can choose to influence your warband/army building or not. These are all system-agnostic, so they can be used with whatever is being played by your friends at the moment.

All of the Legendary Leaders from this collection also have names that are so incredibly Oldhammer. You've seen some brilliant characters above but wait until you meet the deadly Sea Elf, Aldilidl Nettospar!

When it comes to getting your hands on these miniatures, you can choose to get all ten of them or just your favourite four. You can also get a Collector's Package with signed concept art and the Gamer's Package, which features a book packed with background, game-agnostic rules and a background world for you to dive into. There is also the Deluxe Package, which collects all of these goodies together.

All of these Legendary Leaders are the core of the new project but you can also get your hands on a set of Command Groups that will follow them into battle. They are being unlocked right now as part of the Stretch Goals for the campaign. Here is a nice peek at just some of the figures...

All of these Command Groups come with a Musician, Champion and Standard Bearer that you can use to enhance your first warband or army for Heavy Metal Hordes. Once again, I am totally drawn to the brilliant sketch work that serves as the birth of these figures and then the excellent, hand-sculpted final product, which matches up so well!
