Dark Conspiracy by elysium64

We start off this week's Community Spotlight looking at what elysium64 has been doing with another older game in their collection and some miniatures sitting in the pile of potential. Dark Conspiracy is a classic role-playing game that elysium64 is quite a fan of and so wanted to make a miniatures range/game that would fit within it's world.

Dark Conspiracy #1 by elysium64

With that in mind, they picked up a bunch of the Hasslefree Miniatures range over the last few years and they have made their way into this project where elysium64 seeks to get them all paintd up and then dive into the creation of their own game based on Dark Conspiracy.

Dark Conspiracy is a game world which brings together plenty of those classic 80s and 90s Pulp vibes together into one place with aliens and alien technology clashing with horror elements like the inclusion of vampires, werewolves and zombies.

Dark Conspiracy #2 by elysium64

The background draws on inspiration from the likes of H.P. Lovecraft, The X-File and Delta Green, which has then flowed into the types of miniatures that elysium64 has decided to pick up and paint for use within the miniatures game they are working on. All of this is tied up within a retro-futuristic vibe that I think it awesome as a premise.

Dark Conspiracy #3 by elysium64

elysium64 here has done an excellent job of painting up these miniatures for two of the initial factions they are planning on adding into the game. All of them are from Hasslfree Miniatures and look bloomin' brilliant. You have some Minion Hunters and Corporate Operatives already in the mix. You can certainly see the clash of styles already!

elysium64 has already put together a set of guidelines for how they are going to build their game and I am intrigued to see where they go with the concept. It seems like everyone is excited by the idea of making their own games at the moment.

Spores Wargame by Wonkygoblin

This is certainly the case when we look at the work by Wonkygoblin, who has started up a new project to document the creation of their miniatures game of Goblin fun, Spores. You might remember that we already looked at the miniatures for this game, which you can see HERE.

Spores Game Design #1 by Wonkygoblin

Wonkygoblin has already come up with some great ideas for the basics of game mechanics and how they want to look at approaching the core elements of gameplay, as well as what dice get thrown into the mix. There is even a graph about dice and how they fluctuate. It's all a bunch of maths that I wouldn't want to tackle but I'm glad that Wonkygoblin is doing it.

Spores Game Design #2 by Wonkygoblin

Wonkygoblin has put together quite a checklist and they are putting some serious work into getting this game off the ground. They have already worked on their card activation system, the models for at least one of the factions and how some of the nitty-gritty details work. There is more to go in terms of gameplay but also sculpting miniatures for different factions plus backing for this whilst showing it off at the UK Games Expo next year!

This all looks very nifty indeed and I can't wait to see how Wonkygoblin gets on with the project. You can follow the two links above at the start of this entry to get a look at more on the game design side of things as well as a way to keep tabs on what new miniatures get added into the mix.

More Blanchitsu by darkdanegan

Last but not least, we're having a look at more painting by darkdanegan using the Blanchitsu paints from The Army Painter. They have been working on plenty of additional miniatures using this limited palette and particular aesthetic and showcasing what the paints can do.

More Blanchitsu #1 by darkdanegan

I have always been more of an Adrian Smith fanatic but I do appreciate the concept-style of Blanche's artwork and the way that it has informed the appearance of Warhammer (and beyond) over the years. I think it makes for very striking artwork that hits hard and it looks fascinating when translated onto miniatures, especially with that distinctly red/yellow tone.

The Slaughterpriest is a great example of using these paints and the style to create a definitely awesome miniature without having to worry about all of the little details. I think this fellow looks amazing without having to paint all of the trim, for example!

More Blanchitsu #3 by darkdanegan

darkdanegan did a bit of extra work recently, twisting things and instead using the paints to work on some more traditional-looking miniatures from Warhammer 40,000. I think this Inquisitor and his servitor-like assistant look fantastic and you can still tell that this is Blanchitsu in style without being overtly tied to his particular style of artwork.

In contrast, you also have these miniatures for use in 1490 Doom, which are more in line with the style that the Slaughterpriest was painted.

I think all of these miniatures look brilliant and it's a fascinating project to dive into in more detail using the links above. There are some cool tests for you to have a peek at and if nothing else, it might get you excited about the idea of painting figures in this style yourself.
